He functions as an advisor, teacher, instructor, researcher, commentator and practitioner on Data Protection and Data Privacy, Governance, Risk Management, Compliance and IT security (GRC), Bribery, Fraud and Corruption (BFC) and Corporate Social/Stakeholder Responsibility (CSR) issues.

David Cauchi

Head Compliance at the Information and Data Protection Commissioner


David Cauchi joined the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner in 2003, after successfully completing his studies at the University of Malta, where he obtained a Degree in Commerce, with Management as area of specialization. Mr Cauchi has since then formed part of the technical team and currently occupies the position of Head Compliance.

During these years, Mr Cauchi has developed a level of expertise in data protection matters, particularly in handling complaints, carrying out inspections and audits, dealing with data transfers and cross-border issues, providing guidance and raising awareness on data protection to the various sectors, including banking and financial services, online gaming, law enforcement and regulatory bodies, NGOs, employment, and also the public at large.

At the European level, Mr Cauchi represents the Information and Data Protection Commissioner in various data protection fora, particularly those relating to the Coordinated Supervision of EU large-scale information systems, such as Europol, Schengen (SISII), Visa (VIS), Eurodac and Customs (CIS).

Mr Cauchi is currently serving his second term as Vice-Chair of the SIS II Supervision Coordination Group, having been appointed in 2013.
